VOLUNTEER AT THE RESTORE

Volunteering at the ReStore is a fun way to make a difference in our community without swinging a hammer or getting your shoes muddy. Not only do ReStore volunteers help Habitat for Humanity build affordable homes in Elkhart County, but they also keep our community clean and green by diverting more than 200 tons of reusable material out of landfills each year!

ReStore volunteers will be rewarded with discounts for their great participation in the store. ReStore volunteers must be at least 18 years old or 14 years old with parental permission. All volunteers must complete a waiver before they are allowed to help at the ReStore or on a build site. You may fill out a waiver when you come in to volunteer or you can complete the online volunteer waiver form.

ReStore Volunteer Shifts

Volunteers are needed from 10:00 am to 5:00 pm Monday through Saturday. We require volunteers to work at minimum a 2 hour shift. To learn more about ReStore volunteer opportunities, call 574.533.6109 and ask for the Volunteer Coordinator.

ReStore Volunteer Positions

Cashier - Operate the register, help customers check out, answer telephones and assist with general customer service (background check required).

Check Out Assistant - Support the register area. Help bag merchandise, help with customer inquiries, answer telephones, provide customer service, help customers load their merchandise into their vehicles.

Merchandising / Stocking Assistant - Help create and maintain store displays, keep the shelves stocked, make sure merchandise is in its correct area, help customers with merchandise inquiries and help load customer purchases upon request.

Donation Assistant - Assist in unloading donations, help sort, clean, measure, and mark merchandise to be brought to the showroom floor. Help bring merchandise to the appropriate areas in the store. Strong back and willingness to have fun required!

Store Maintenance - If you enjoy cleaning; this is a volunteer opportunity for you. Help keep the store clean by sweeping, wiping down inventory, touching up areas with paint and doing other household chores to keep the store shining.

Driver’s Assistant - Do you like meeting new people and learning where places are in your community? Help pickup donations from the Elkhart County and its surrounding areas! Ride along in the Habitat ReStore box truck and help bring donations back into the store. This position requires a 6 hour commitment and only is available Monday day through Saturday 8:00 am to 2:00 pm.

SPECIAL VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES

Deconstruction/Salvage - We can use individual volunteers and groups on an irregular basis to assist with the removal of reusable materials from existing buildings scheduled for demolition. Many materials salvaged from such projects are sold in our ReStore and diverted from landfills. Tools will be provided.

Large Volunteer Groups - If your organization is interested in volunteering at the ReStore in a group larger than 4 people; we ask that you please contact us at least 1 full week before the date that you would like to volunteer. Larger groups require special projects and we not only need to have a full scale activity for the group, but also someone that can supervise and train the group on what is needed. Thank you!
